Whiston Methodist Church

Wath and West Melton Methodist Church

Jenny grew up in Sheffield where she met Richard at a Methodist Youth Club. They were married when they were twenty and had two children Jonathan and Susan. From being nineteen Jenny believed God was calling her to be a Methodist Minister. In 1971 they moved to Whiston and Jenny began worshipping at Whiston Methodist where she was a church steward and Junior Church leader.  For thirteen years she was a local preacher in the Rotherham Circuit before candidating and training for the ordained ministry. Whilst training on the Northern Ordination Course, she remained in the circuit as a local preacher and continued teaching at Brinsworth Comprehensive School.

Jenny served ten years in the Sheffield South Circuit and fourteen years the South Holland Circuit in Lincolnshire. For most of her ministry she was a superintendent minister and enjoyed all aspects of ministry especially pastoral care and in contrast policy making – having served on various committees at district and connexional level. She also encouraged ecumenical links and whilst in Lincolnshire became an Area Warden of Readers for the Lincoln Diocese. In her role as District Deputy Chair she also served on the Council of Churches for all Lincolnshire.
Throughout her training and ministry she is thankful for the loving support of Richard and their family. In September 2011 she retired from full time ministry and returned to Whiston. Although she misses the big skies of Lincolnshire she says it is nice to be back in her own home and worshipping once more at Whiston Methodist Church. She has pastoral care for Whiston and also Wath and West Melton Methodist Churches, a role she could hardly have envisaged forty years ago.
